Washbears?

Washing bears (or washbears) is simply what raccoons are called in many languages after their behaviour and similarities to bears! Few examples:Wasbeer - Dutch
Waschbär - German
Vaskebjørn - Danish & Norwegian
þvottabjörn - Icelandic
洗熊 (araiguma) - Japanese
Õ»Ö€Õ¡Ö€Õ» (jrarj) - Armenian // "water-bears"
Pesukarhu - Finnish
and many moreThat said, by the modern taxonomy raccoons are their own genus (Procyon), though evolutional similarities to bears are there. That's why Linnaeus in his earliest editions of Systema Naturae listed raccoons as Ursus cauda elongata ('long-tailed bear') and then later Ursus Lotor ('washer bear'). (if you want to read more)But factual talk aside, I personally find this a much much more pleasing and better nickname for them, than "trash panda". And I put an emphasis on the bear part of the nickname with the heft of my raccoon character ;9🌟 The more you know 🌟
